Meet our therapy dog, Ginger
Ginger is a Borderdoodle (mom was a red-brown border collie, dad was a standard poodle). She LOVES everyone and is very playful, super sweet, and cuddly. Doodle dogs, while not entirely hypoallergenic, are allergen-friendly pets with minimal shedding.
Some prefer Ginger to stay in our sessions with us, while others prefer just a quick hello while I usher her outside. Some like her to sit up with them on the coach, while others prefer she stays down. Let me know your preference. Either way is totally just fine with her—she’s just happy to see you.
“Whether they’re working with a child who is learning to read, visiting a patient in a hospital, or a senior in assisted living, therapy dogs and their owners work together as a team to improve the lives of other people. A dog can provide a valuable sense of reassurance, joy, or calmness to people experiencing stressful, lonely, or depressing situations or general times in their life.”
—The American Kennel Club
And if you need a dog trainer, I highly recommend Ginger’s: Sara Baker at Baker’s Acres K9 Academy. She’s not a dog whisperer; she’s a dog wizard! We used to say, “Ginger’s superpower is complete obliviousness to personal boundaries.” However, Sara has since helped us with that, as awareness of boundaries is kind of important in both therapy and in a therapy dog :-).
